Press Release: Whitestown Fire Department Receives Donation from Amazon
February 22, 2012

The Whitestown Fire Department is proud to announce that Amazon has made a $5,000 donation to fund the department's ongoing, free, smoke detector and battery project, as well as other fire prevention programs.

"This funding allows our department to assure the safety of our citizens who may not otherwise have these important life safety tools," said Whitestown Fire Chief Joe Anderson. "Working smoke detectors are the best way to protect families from loss of life due to fire."

To date, the Whitestown Fire Department has visited more than 200 homes and distributed more than 60 smoke detectors.

"Amazon is proud to support the important work of the Whitestown Fire Department," said Dave Alperson, General Manager of the Indiana Amazon Fulfillment Centers. "As a member of the greater Indianapolis community, we hope this contribution will have a positive impact on the residents of Whitestown."

Today, February 22, at 10:00 a.m., Amazon formally presented the Town of Whitestown Fire Department with the donation. The donation was presented to Town Council President Dawn Semmler and Fire Chief Joe Anderson at the Whitestown Fire Department.

Any Whitestown resident wishing to obtain a smoke detector or battery should go to Station 71 located at 2965 South 575 E. in Whitestown.

Press Release: Honorary Firefighter
February 17, 2012

Following the lead of the Indiana House of Representatives, the Town of Whitestown Fire Board and Town Council recognized 7-year old Brandon Vinson at last night's Town meetings. Council President Dawn Semmler read a formal resolution, then Brandon was made an honorary Whitestown Firefighter by a unanimous vote of the Town Council and was administered the oath of office by the Town Clerk Amanda Andrews. Brandon who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis arrived at Town Hall on a fire truck after spending the afternoon working with his father Greg at Whitestown Station 71. Brandon is a third generation firefighter following his father, grandfather and uncle into the profession.

Toasters Recalled by Hamilton Beach Due to Fire Hazard
December 21, 2011

When the toasters are first plugged into the outlets, the heating element can be energized although the toaster lifter is in the up or off position, which can pose a fire hazard if the toaster is near flammable items. The Hamilton Beach recall involves model 22602 toasters. The model number is printed on the bottom of the toaster. The toaster has a chromed steel exterior, a front control panel with a rotary toast shade selector and function buttons arranged in an arc, a front removable crumb tray and "Hamilton Beach" printed below the control panel.


Whitestown Street Naming Initiative
December 19, 2011

The Town Council has established an initiative to seek community public participation in the naming of several streets in the community. Those streets are: former State Route 334 and County Road 650 South and former County Roads: East 400 South, East 450 South and 650 East. Available on the Town's website homepage at www.whitestown.in.gov as a link is a map highlighting in yellow the boundaries of the streets/roads for renaming purposes.

Recommendations for names can be submitted to:: Town Hall Post Box 325 - 6320 S. Cozy Ln., Whitestown, IN 46075 or via email: bpiscitelli@whitestown.in.gov. Please include the full name, address or email and/or phone number of the person submitting the recommendation. The deadline for submissions is February 10th, 2012.

Public Hearing for Farm Heritage Trail
October 25, 2011

On November 1, 2011, there will be a Public Hearing held in the Town of Whitestown to seek public comment on continuing the Farm Heritage Trail project from Lebanon to Zionsville in southeast Boone County. In 2006, the Boone County Commissioners were awarded a $987,350 Transportation Enhancement Award to acquire land along the former New York Central/Big Four railway in order to develop a multi-model transportation and recreational corridor. 4th Annual Whitestown Parks 5K Walk/Run
September 8, 2011

The 4th Annual Whitestown Parks 5K Walk/Run will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011. Start and finish will be at Panther Park on Buck Street. Registration starts at 8 am and the race starts at 8:30 am. Registration before October 2 is $15.00 and the day of the event is $20.00. Re-Organization Committee Creation
September 1, 2011

The Town of Whitestown and Worth Township have each adopted resolutions to create a committee (called a "Reorganization Committee") to examine the possible consolidation and reorganization of Worth Township and Whitestown. The committee will be made up of six members: three appointed by Whitestown and three appointed by Worth Township.

The Town of Whitestown currently has an opening and is seeking a resident to serve as one the Town's appointees to the Reorganization Committee. Applicants for the Town's appointments should be residents within the corporate boundaries of the Town of Whitestown. Applicants must be willing to commit to weekly meetings as well as responsibilities outside of meetings such as reading material, writing drafts of reports, and offering feedback to staff.

Interested applicants should provide his or her name, address, phone number, email address, occupation, and political party affiliation (the Committee is required to be bipartisan). It would also be helpful if applicants could answer the following questions:

  1. What unique perspective can you bring to the Reorganization Committee?
  2. Why do you want to be considered for the Reorganization Committee?
  3. Do you have any specific area of expertise which would benefit the Reorganization Committee? (Specific areas of expertise could include, for example, local and municipal finance, public policy, political science, writing expertise, accounting, etc.).

All interested applicants should submit their information to Whitestown Town Hall at bpiscitelli@whitestown.in.gov.

Applicants for the Town's appointments must be residents within the corporate boundaries of the Town of Whitestown. Applicants must be willing to attend regular meetings and commit to taking on responsibility outside of meetings including reading material, preparing written materials, and offering feedback to staff.

Town Council is seeking residents who can bring a specific area of expertise to the study committee. Examples of areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, municipal law attorneys, political scientists, government and public policy professors, accountants, operations managers and writing specialists. Specific areas of expertise are a preference but not a requirement.

Indiana Pesticide Clean Sweep Project
July 25, 2011

An Indiana Pesticide Clean Sweep Project designed to collect and dispose of suspended, canceled, banned, unusable, opened, unopened or just unwanted pesticides (weed killers, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, miticides, etc.) is being sponsored by the Office of Indiana State Chemist (OISC). This disposal service is free of charge up to 250 pounds per participant. Over 250 pounds there will be a $2.00 per pound charge. Boone County to use $855,000 in federal money to help expand 146th Street corridor
Boone County will receive nearly $1 million in federal funding to jump-start the 146th Street extension.

The road, currently called County Road 300 South in Boone County, would be expanded to a two-lane highway with a center turning lane and extended west, jogging down to connect to County Road 400 South. From there, the highway will expand to four lanes and intersect with I-65 and Ind. 267.


Boone Co. property-tax bills to arrive in June
Boone County homeowners should receive their annual property tax bill in June, officials say.

Auditor Melody Price said the county's tax rates have been approved, and with the possible exception of a few parcels in a Whitestown tax-increment financing district, bills should be ready to go out by June.


Three honored for achievements
Boone County's farming community gathered at the 4-H Fairgrounds Thursday night to honor three of their own.

At the 72nd annual Breeders and Feeders banquet, 2009 Boone County Distinguished Agricultural Career Awards were given to Meredith Abbitt of Union Township, Marvin Golladay of Clinton Township and Harold Wayne Rose of Jefferson Township. More

Laptops in police cars are nothing new, but there is new software that's been added to Boone County patrol cars. It's giving dispatchers and others the ability to track every move officers make while on duty.


Whitestown town council creates new fire department
The Worth Township Fire Department is no more.

The Whitestown Town Council approved an ordinance Tuesday, Feb. 10, by a vote of 4-1 to take control of the fire department, effectively creating the Whitestown Fire Department. More
